Over the past couple of weeks, I've been compiling a list of things I'd like to do. Most of these are things that I would be happy to have company on, so if anyone is interested, let me know.

EDIT: This is now a permanent, changing list of the things I want to do and have done.

  1. Skydiving - I'd like to go again, probably up in Santa Rosa.

  2. Sailing - planning on joining the Cal Sailing Club and taking lessons.

  3. Spelunking - heading out to Moaning Cavern in the next month, for a start.

  4. Take some Circus Center classes.

  5. Motorcycle lessons.

  6. Learn a martial art. Stick with it this time.

  7. Get back into shape.

  8. Get my M1 class license.

  9. Buy a motorcycle.

  10. Get my Frank and Ouroboros tattoos.

  11. Participate in Top Dog Air Combat.

  12. Go for a hot air balloon ride.

  13. Learn to juggle.

  14. Take ballroom dancing classes. Primarily so I can waltz to this.

  15. Learn to play an instrument, probably the piano (again).

  16. Take some sewing classes.

Dear Gamemakers,

By and large, I really enjoy your games. I do. However. In my daily life I find I have a plethora of activities that already fall into the category of "grinding" and the only category I wish that adjective fit into was "sex". My purpose in playing the games you produce is to take me out of my daily boring toils. Yet, as the quote goes: "Every time I try to get out, they keep pulling me back in!" You, in your infinite wisdom, have found a way to take the joy out of a game and replace it with the tedium of a cube farm. It's not as if you, or your developers, are paid by the amount of time I spend on a game. Nor by the number of [monster name] I vanquish. Yet you insist on your silly (some would say petty) system of rewards based on how many times I am willing to go back and kill the exact same monster in order to get some choice item that only they can deliver. In particular, I am eyeballing you Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, because I am currently grinding like mad in order to obtain nine of each soul I come across. Sometimes this only takes a half hour of my sad little life. Other times, I can measure the time lost in days. Isn't there some better system that your genius programmers could have come up with in the past decade or so?

Yes, I will continue to grind. But it only makes me think that you are controlled by massive corporations whose only desire is to crush the spirit and souls of future office drones like myself.

Thanks to [info]ersigh for this:

Between this and Olberman's previous commentary on Prop 8, I think I'm starting to like this guy.

RIP John Lennon. The list of sudden and unexpected celebrity deaths is long—Princess Di, Heath Ledger, Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Monroe, and many more. Which one affected you the most on an emotional level?

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, of course. It feels like it only happened 2,000 years ago. So fresh. So painful.
